Ayurveda & Spa Resort Sonnhof in Thiersee

The Ayurveda resort Sonnhof offers a complete range of Ayurveda packages, with many additional services, right in the heart of the Tyrol mountains (Kufstein). Ayurveda is wonderfully integrated into the European culture here, and practiced with heaps of enthusiasm. The establishment is a four star hotel.

Two specialists from the birthplace of Ayurveda, are in charge of the medical direction of Sonnhof resorts: Dr. Gaurav Sharma, Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery; and Chef de Cuisine Balvinder Walia.

All panchakarma treatments - lasting a duration of seven, ten, 14 or 21 days - include examination and pulse diagnostics by Dr. Sharma. Additionally, shorter stays are made available, as well as introductory programs to Ayurveda. For example, there are spinal intensives (from five nights), purification and weight reduction treatments (four to seven nights), or deceleration and regeneration (five to ten nights).

Single treatments are also possible, ranging from a pulse diagnosis to short programs that are only three to five nights duration. All treatments are under the charge of Dr. Sharma regardless the length of your stay.

Any of the daily exercise programs are a great compliment to your treatment; and you're welcomed to join, whether it be in the beautiful spacious Yoga room, or in the outdoors: Yoga, Nordic Walking, Qi Gong, Pilates or Back Gymnastics. Ayurveda uses the healing power of physical movements to relieve mental stress, migraine, sleep disorders, erratic mood swings or inner unrest.

Lisa Mauracher, daughter of the family, is a certified Yoga instructor who places a focus on correct breathing during the practice, in order to dissolve tension in the body, and to enable participants to learn exercises for disease prevention.
Recurring events take place with guest teachers, such as Yoga weekends and weekly seminars. These typically include Yoga and meditation, and Yoga for the back, but also more unusual programs like special Yoga for men and MediYoga©.

Ayurveda Chef Balvinder Walia, from India, enchants guests with a delicious European-Indian cuisine. Entirely based on the principles of Indian healing, and strictly arranged together with Dr. Sharma, Balvinder Walia values the importance of high quality products, gleaning them from regional markets and farms. Alongside Indian spices such as coriander, ginger, cardamon or cinnamon, he mixes the European spices of thyme, basil and fennel to invoke healing effects.

In the morning a generous breakfast buffet is served, at lunchtime a pitta buffet with soups, mixed salads, starters and desserts. In the afternoon, patients may enjoy Vata snacks and a tea ceremony with healthy delights. In the evening one can choose between three different menu options: the Panchakarma & Detox menu, the Ayurveda Fountain of Youth menu, or the Sonnhof Menu. Treatment patients receive individual guidance in choosing from these options. For not-so-strict treatments, it is possible to order international and western dishes that are created by Chef de Cuisine Gordon Hildebrandt.

The in-house Ayurveda shop presents itself as an encouragement to continue the Ayurvedic lifestyle at home, with its wide selection of teas and in-house produced herbal mixtures.

A walk in the garden of the five elements, designed by the principles of Vastu and the seven chakras in order to create a free energy flow, is a true highlight.
The tranquil atmosphere and healing effects of the resort are enhanced by the fresh mountain air and the wide view of mount Wilder Kaiser, in Tyrol.

It seems as if the healthy environment and the untouched nature make for a perfect framework for a long-term, and truly relaxing Ayurveda treatment.
The comfortable and spacious rooms are bright and pleasantly decorated, equipped with balconies, and some even with canopy beds and a Yoga corner. The bathrooms are modern and spacious. You also have the option to book a suite.
